    • Mirrors v4.1.0's merge fix: flushes now hold the write lock only for a brief seal and commit, not the full encode.
    • Also much less variable run-to-run.

    • Merging splits into snapshot → build → swap; only snapshot/swap hold the collection's write lock, not the full merge.
    • Fixed a tombstone-pruning bug (segment presence bitmap vs. declared range) surfaced by the new off-lock timing.

    Segment merges stream in bounded memory — peak RSS at 5M docs cut from 5.2 GiB to 1.5 GiB. Breaking format change, reindex required.

    • Merges now stream a k-way merge of encoded segments instead of decoding everything into memory at once.
    • Format v4: directory moved to a footer at EOF; offsets widened past the old 4 GiB limit. Indexing throughput and search latency unchanged.
